Catina is the company that emerged from a long-term, strategic partnership forged in 2020 between the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and True Wind Capital (TWC) to invest in AIA Contract Documents for the benefit of architects, building owners, contractors and other stakeholders in the building industry.
Most of our investments focus on technology, including data analytics and online tools, that will enable the industry to build with decreased risk and increased efficiency. TWC specializes in making investments in targeted segments of technology and brings deep expertise in enterprise software and construction technology to the partnership.
The role of technology is both essential and overdue. In a recent report, McKinsey & Company concluded that the building industry “has not yet embraced new digital technologies that need up-front investment,” while adding that “cost and schedule overruns are the norm” and that “construction labor productivity has not kept pace with overall economic productivity.”
AIA is continuing to do what it does best—developing and refining the industry-standard forms and contracts used in design and construction projects with the consensus of owners, contractors, attorneys, architects, engineers, and others.
Catina features the balanced sequencing of a, i and a to reflect both our history and future with AIA, while signalling something new and exciting for the building industry. The letter C, the shape of which is reflected in the typography of our logo, stands for the enhanced connectivity and collaboration we’re enabling throughout the building industry.
Catina has assembled a senior staff of experts in the building and technology industries to develop tailored customer solutions while working in close consultation with AIA regarding its stewardship of AIA Contract Documents. Executives of both organizations, including Catina CEO Chris Anderson and AIA CEO Lakisha Ann Woods, frequently collaborate with one another.
The next version of AIA Contract Documents will be released in early 2023 and, as part of the Catina platform, will feature data analytics, expanded collaboration tools, as well as a new and improved user interface.
